How Sad

In preparing for a Tea/Bible study this week I was struck by a thought voiced by author Elizabeth George in "A Woman's High Calling". Considering the concept of living daily life with a reverent behavior, George reminds her readers, "The consecrated, set-apart life of holiness is true bliss...not old-fashioned or undesirable."

The sad reality of social norms in our nation, and even, in our churches, does reveal a stark difference from our instructions found in God's Word. Several verses in Titus chapter two are resoundingly clear. We are reminded to be reverent in our behavior, not slanderers and not given to much wine. And, we are to love our husbands and children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, and obedient. Picture this setting in your mind. Yes, it is a tall order. Remember though, we are walking out a calling to represent our Lord and Savior.

Elizabeth George goes on to encourage us to "weed out our antics, humor, sarcasm, stunts, and speech that are irreverent, and any other behaviors that have no place in the life of a woman who is called to be in continual fellowship with God." How sad that living such a lifestyle would be seen as old-fashioned or undesirable.
Oh Father God, have mercy on us.
