Each One

Peter's words are so very instructive to each one of us in today's world. I believe many of us are pensively watching the culture of the people and times surrounding us. Where do we make a stand? What do we say? How do we conduct ourselves?

Chapter 4: 7-11 of I Peter speaks to each one of us. "But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins." Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles (utterances) of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen."

The over-arching purpose of our words and conduct is to serve for God's glory, as indicated in the last verse. Clearly, verse seven convinces us that time is of the essence. I personally think there should be an urgency to comply with God's direction. Serving the Lord is an honor and privilege. Each one of us is gifted to be loving and hospitable. In addition, there is also a profound responsibility to be good stewards of the gifts given to us. The Holy Spirit will provide direction, discernment, strength and fortitude as we speak on God's behalf.

Pressure to be silent about our faith and beliefs has been applied through politics, schools/universities, co-workers, and even, friends. Could it be time to enthusiastically be alert for opportunities to speak, act and minister?
