Advent and Anticipation

The Advent season begins Sunday, November 27. This season we take an opportunity to prepare our homes and spirits to celebrate the anniversary of Christ’s birth. What fun it is to pull out the sentimental wreath, nativity set, ornaments and Christmas platters! We want our home to be perfectly prepared for “the celebration of the year!”

It seems to me that I need to focus more energy and time, while I celebrate His first coming, in preparing my heart and mind for His Second Coming. Advent offers a chance to prayerfully discern an accurate condition of my heart. Then to confess, repent and move forward with anticipation.

“Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning; and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately….Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Luke 12: 35, 36, and 40
