In The Moment

Thankfully my son's land only received a small amount of tornado damage a while back.  Recently many families and communities have experienced loss and tragedy. Soldiers families grieve as the overseas wars cut lives short. And, of course, some are suffering with emptiness due to expected passings from age and disease. All of this sadness reminds me to live "in the moment". I don't imply "living for the moment", frivolously seeing life as an unending party since tomorrow just might not come - quite the opposite. Living in the moment causes us to embrace who we are, where we are and with whomever we are, today. Focusing on the positive, good, worthy aspects of our daily blessings is healthy. As we pray comfort upon our neighbors and friends, our eyes open to the small but powerful reminders of the comforts that surround us daily. Satisfaction and contentment will be the rewards of such an outlook. To miss the depth of a spouse's smile, the searching eyes of our teenage daughter, or the heartfelt words of a friend, is sad. Each and every moment we breathe the breath of God is a gift of life. Somehow we often get caught up in just 'living'; complaints and grumbling become habitual. Wishing tomorrow would come skips over today. Watching life through the rear view mirror instead of looking ahead enjoying the present view, misses the precious memories we are building today. There is beauty, kindness and peace available in the 'everyday'. I thank God Almighty for the breath I breathe "in this moment".
