Autumn

Autumn has a beauty that can hardly be explained with words. Colors in the weekly process of change present an array of pleasing hues. There seems to be an awakening in the air, a crisp reminder of the new season. For nearly two decades I shared an autumn spiritual retreat with a group of very special woman. Off to the ranch we ventured to appreciate the fall display while purposely getting away and alone to hear from God.

Life's demands, responsibilities, and obligations (even those that are welcomed and coveted), require much energy. But spiritual retreats are wealthy with vital renewal. It takes effort to set aside calendar time, even if only for a day. When we don't have time or access to a welcoming horse ranch I believe we can create our private little retreat anywhere. Setting ourselves apart for a day or so reaps great benefits. The Lord knows we become preoccupied with all of the urgents in our lives. Keeping our relationship with Him "rooted and grounded" is the most urgent need. Paul's prayer for the church at Ephesus reminds us, "that He would grant you to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man."
Ephesians 3: 14-21
