Benedictions
A benediction is a pronounced blessing upon the family of God, often used to conclude a church service. There are many benedictions in God's Word. I find the benediction issued in Hebrews 13: 20 and 21 absolutely faith-building, strengthening and comforting, all wrapped up in one.
"Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen."
There is an amazing amount of information in this one sentence. And, it applies to believers no matter what is going on in their lives. One person could be launching a new ministry business, feeling energized and thrilled. Another person might be stumbling through a confusing, frustrating season, waiting for a dark cloud to dissipate. This one sentence benediction can unlock and enlighten each of these saints. The beginning of this blessing ....."our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, rising to life through the blood of the everlasting covenant..." reminds us of the greatest miracle of all times and the greatest promise of all times! And then this pronouncement continues with a 'follow-up plan', since we are redeemed by the blood, we are convincingly told God is working in us. This means He is helping and nudging us along into completion and maturation. Whether we find ourselves in a positive experience, excitedly waiting on God for direction or we are desperately reaching for answers and peace, this benediction speaks to the situation. Our Father wants us to walk forward, being willing to become the sheep who is well pleasing in His sight. He will help! I pray this benediction over the readers of this page.
